Film Movement has picked up rights to Pedro Gonzalez-Rubio’s Berlin entry Alamar.

The father-and-son drama is the opening night screening in the Generation programme and is currently in competition in Rotterdam.

Film Movement plans a July 14 theatrical release after acquiring North American rights to the story, which is set among the picturesque islands and floating homes of the Mexican Caribbean coastline.

President Adley Gartenstein and vice-president of acquisitions and distribution Rebeca Conget negotiated the deal with Matthieu Giblin of MK2.

“It is a true and honest celebration of the essence of life, love, family and nature,” Gartenstein said. “It is also proof that film as an art form is alive and well.”
