E1 Entertainment has closed a deal for Canadian rights to three films from Andras Hamori and Mark Horowitz’s H20 Motion Pictures.

Already completed is The Waiting City, Clare McCarthy’s drama about an Australian couple (Radha Mitchell, Joel Edgerton) waiting in Calcutta for their adopted baby. The film had its world premiere at Toronto last year.

E1 has also taken The Gate 3D, Alex Winter’s remake of the hit 1987 Canadian movie which is being crafted as a PG-13 fantasy about two children who discover a gate in their backyard to a chamber containing terrifying evil.

The third film in the package is Lie Down With Darkness, a noir thriller to star Samuel L Jackson as a newly released ex-con trying to escape his criminal past but dragged back into crime by his old partner in crime.

Horowitz negotiated the deal with Lara Thompson, E1’s senior vice president of worldwide acquisitions.
