QED International’s Bill Block will introduce Berlin buyers to his long awaited follow-up to the global smash District 9 (pictured).

Bill Block has teamed up with Michael Mann’s Forward Pass Inc on the serial killer thriller The Fields to star Avatar’s Sam Worthington, who headlines Warner Bros’ and Legendary Pictures’ spring release Clash Of The Titans.

Block will commence sales at EFM in Berlin this week on the project, which marks the feature directorial debut of Mann’s daughter Ami Canaan Mann. Pre-production is underway in Louisiana ahead of an April start on principal photography.

Mann and Michael Jaffe are producing the story of two homicide detectives who probe a series of murders along coastal Texas. During the course of the investigation they must overcome fierce killers as they race to save a street child from becoming the next victim. Don Ferrarone wrote the screenplay.

CAA represents Mann and Worthington and set up the project with QED, who is financing. QED and CAA are co-representing domestic rights.

District 9 has grossed over $200m worldwide and is nominated for four Academy Award including best picture.

Block will take the lead on selling The Fields in Berlin following the departure late last year of executive vice-president of worldwide sales and distribution Kimberly Fox, who has since joined Inferno Entertainment. Sales executive Tatyana Joffe left earlier last year.

Mann was one of the producers on The Kingdom and Hancock, which grossed $624m worldwide, and directed and produced Public Enemies, among many others.
