Shoreline Entertainment has picked up worldwide sales on Joao Daniel Tikhomiroff’s Brazilian action title Besouro ahead of its world premiere in Berlin.

The film is one of two Shoreline titles set to play in Panorama – the other one being Juan Carlos Valdivia’s Bolivian entry Southern District, which just won the World Cinema directing and screenwriting awards at Sundance.

Besouro features the Brazilian martial arts form capoeira and centres on the titular character’s mission to save his people from a lifetime of oppression. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International will release in Brazil.

Shoreline CEO Morris Ruskin said he “could not be more excited” heading to EFM with his slate, which includes a significant Latin American presence.

Titles include Javier Fuentes-Leon’s Sundance audience award winner Undertow, which Wolfe Releasing has just acquired for North America, and Sebastian Silva’s Chilean comedy The Maid.

Shoreline’s director of acquisitions Brandon Paine and executive vice-president Sam Eigen brokered the Besouro deal with the film’s producers Vicente Amorim, Ellane Ferreira and Katia Machado.
