John Turturro’s Italian music documentary Passione and Sean McNamara’s true drama Soul Surfer bookend the Cinequest Film Festival, set to run in San Jose from Mar 1-13.

Turturro will receive the festival’s Maverick Spirit Award recognising “visionaries who truly capture the essence of the maverick by entertaining and inspiring audiences through evocative means.”

Soul Surfer will open nationwide on Apr 8 through TriStar Pictures supported by a marketing campaign by FilmDistrict.
