Nat Faxon and Jim Rash’s hit Sundance comedy The Way, Way Back will close the Los Angeles Film Festival on Jun 23.

Festival top brass also unveiled the gala screenings and the line-up on Wednesday [May 1] — the North American premiere of Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives and Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station.

Fox Searchlight acquired North America and select major territories to The Way, Way Back after its world premiere at Sundance in January. Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Annasophia Robb, Liam James, Sam Rockwell and Rob Corddry star.

As announced previously, Pedro Almodóvar’s I’m So Excited! will open the event on Jun 13.

World premieres in the narrative competition include Alexander Mirecki’s All Together Now (US) and Joe Burke’s Four Dogs (US).

Among the International Showcase entries are Andy Heathcote and Heike Bachelier’s The Moo Man (UK), Johnnie To’s Drug War (China) and Annemarie Jacir’s When I Saw You (Palestine-Jordan-Greece-UAE-USA).

“Our programmers culled through thousands of submissions and emerged with unique cinematic jewels from both seasoned masters and first-time directors that will take you around the world,” said festival director Stephanie Allain.
