Shane Carruth’s company erbp will self-distribute Upstream Color, the director’s upcoming US Dramatic Competition entry and follow-up to his 2004 Grand Jury Prize-winner Primer. Meanwhile Gravitas Ventures has taken worldwide VoD and digital rights to Sound City.
Upstream Color will premiere at New York’s Lincoln Center on Apr 5 and expand into a platform release prior to digital and VoD roll-out in May.
The film screened on Monday [14] for an invite-only crowd of programmers and theatre owners. Amy Seimetz stars with Carruth in the story of two people who come together in the life cycle of an ageless organism as they try to rebuild their lives. Casey Gooden, Ben LeClair and Meredith Burke produced.
“As a filmmaker you try to make a compelling case for an audience to stick around minute-by-minute with what is on the screen,” said Carruth. “By also crafting the marketing we’re still doing that, still storytelling, but we’re trying to make a case for an audience to show up.”
Shane’s creative team comprises theatrical booker Michael Tuckman, publicists Susan Norget at Susan Norget Film Promotion and Alex Klenert at Prodigy PR, online strategist Roger Tinch, producer Casey Gooden and the Sundance Institute’s #ArtistServices Project.
- Gravitas Ventures has taken worldwide VoD and digital rights to Dave Grohl’s Sundance-bound documentary Sound City. The film is set to open on VoD and digital platforms on Feb 1, day-and-date with the North American theatrical release through Variance Films.
