Visit Films will present the world premiere of Carlos Marques-Marcet’s first feature Long Distance (formerly 10,000KM) at SXSW.

Visit holds worldwide rights excluding Spain. Natalia Tena and David Verdaguer star as a happy Barcelona couple whose relationship is plunged into turmoil when an opportunity takes one of them far away.

Barcelona native Marques-Marcet has directed two award-winning shorts and a feature documentary and has edited several features including It Felt Like Love. He is a recipient of the La Caixa scholarship and is a graduate of the UCLA School Of Theater, Film And Television MFA programme.

Visit director of acquisitions Aida LiPera negotiated the deal with the filmmakers and said, “We’re really excited to be working on Long Distance as it is sure to introduce Carlos Marques-Marcet as an emerging voice in Spanish cinema.

“Updating the classical long distance relationship with new technologies and storytelling methods, he has captured a story that becomes increasingly relevant by the day for audiences.”

Long Distance producer Tono Folguera added, “We’re thrilled to have a risk-taking company like Visit Films on board so early. [Long Distance] was a daring project: a script with an innovative approach, fresh faces, and made by young talent.

“But the goal was to reach the individual viewer and we’re confident that we’ll see that in Austin at the SXSW world premiere, as well as with audiences down the line in theaters and at home.”

Visit’s recent line-up at EFM included Berlinale competition selection History Of Fear, Culinary Section feature Food Chains and Generation feature 52 Tuesdays, which earned the Crystal Bear award.

The sales slate currently includes Sundance premieres Memphis, War Story and The Disobedient, as well as Rotterdam premiere Casa Grande or The Ballad Of Poor Jean.
