Outgoing San Francisco Film Society executive director Ted Hope joined film-makers at the inaugural Fall Celebration on November 14 at new hot spot The Battery.

The Society honoured four awards season contenders on the night: Fruitvale Station, Her, Nebraska and The Square.

“I think I have seen the future of film and his name is Ryan Coogler,” Christopher Columbus said of the Fruitvale Station writer-director. “[Fruitvale Station] is part of film history now. Thank you.”

“Meeting Jehane [Noujaim, director of The Square] has been amazing,” Coogler said. “I have never been arrested making a film but I hope to one day.”

The event raised money for the Society’s year-round programmes in support of exhibition, education and film-maker services.
