Longtime Universal executive Michael J Joe has joined Relativity Media as president of the company while Tucker Tooley has been promoted to president of worldwide production.

Joe will be charged with overseeing the LA-based company’s global footprint and will manage distribution relationships, banking and financing initiatives and overall strategy. He reports to Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh.

Tooley will continue to oversee all creative aspects of the company and also reports to Kavanaugh.

“When we began the search for this position, we knew we would need someone who has been involved in all aspects of corporate strategy, film and overall finance and distribution,” Kavanaugh said. “We were thrilled that Michael - with real breadth and depth of experience in all these areas joined Relativity.

“Additionally, Tucker has been instrumental in the success of our company, and I am very excited his role will be expanding. Both of these executives will prove invaluable as we continue to move forward with acquisitions and launching new businesses, especially as attractive entertainment assets become more available.”

Joe served 15 years at Universal and most recently held the position of executive vice-president, overseeing the studio’s digital strategy and digital distribution activities, as well as strategic planning, business development and film financing. He shepherded the equity financing partnership with Elliott Associates and Relativity Media, which covers 80 films from 2008-2014.

Tooley joined Relativity Media in July 2007 as president of production and in tandem with Kavanaugh has built the company’s single picture films division. He and his executive team are overseeing upcoming titles such as Dawn Of War from Tarsem Singh and Neil Burger’s Dark Fields, and the 3D action film Sanctum from James Cameron.
