Late Chilean director Raul Ruiz’s Mysteries of Lisbon was named best film at the 24th Panorama of European Cinema which wrapped yesterday.

French veteran Alain Cavalier wes named best director for Pater. The audience award went to Igor Voloshin’s Bedouin.

The awards were presented by the chairman of the international jury, film maker Theo Angelopoulos before the screening of the closing film Tate Taylor’s The Help starring Emma Stone, Viola Davis and Jessica Chastain.

Also in competition was Ben Wheatley’s Kill List, Jan Komasa’s Suicide Room, Tayfun Pirselimoglu’s The Wig and Mario Martone’s We Believed.

The festival, headed by film critic Ninos Feneck Mikelides organized through the European Cinema Center, opened with Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Cannes Special Jury Prize winner Once Upon a Time in Anatolia.  

The festival paid tribute to Akira Kurosawa, Samuel Fuller and local actress Katina Paxinou.
