Berlinale’s World Cinema Fund (WCF) has awarded a combined €395,000 ($455,000) to 14 projects in its latest funding round.

The recipients hail from Argentina, Burkina Faso, Colombia, Egypt, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines, Senegal, Turkey and Venezuela.

Selected directors that previously participated in Berlinale Talents include Amanda Nell EU (Tiger Stripes), Laura Citarella (Trenque Lauquen), Khavn de la Cruz (Love Is A Dog From Hell) and Katy Léna Ndiaye (Une Histoire Du Franc CFA).

The latest funding round includes the first selections for the WCF ACP programme, awarding projects from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific group of states, as well as the Audience Design Award in partnership with TorinoFilmLab (TFL), which consists of a grant for the selected film to take part in an audience design workshop. Both were launched at this year’s Berlinale.

The WCF jury includes director Teona Strugar Mitevska (North Macedonia), documentary producer and documentary creative advisor Marta Andreu (Spain), producer Alexander Wadouh (Germany) and WCF director Vincenzo Bugno (Italy/Germany). Jury members for WCF Africa include Alex Moussa Sawadogo (Burkina Faso), festival director for Afrikamera and artistic director of the Ouaga Film Lab; and Berlinale delegate for sub-Saharan Africa Dorothee Wenner (Germany). The jury made its selection from 153 submitted projects.

The fund is run by the German Federal Cultural Foundation and the Berlin International Film Festival, in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office, with further support from the Goethe-Institut.
