Festival president Pierre Lescure and general delegate Thierry Frémaux revealed the line-up at a press conference at the Normandie Cinema in Paris.

The selection includes films by Nanni Moretti, Julia Ducournau, Asghar Farhadi, François Ozon, Justin Kurzel, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Mia Hansen-Love and Sean Penn. Four of the 24 Competition titles are directed by women.

Frémaux announced a new section for established filmmakers titled Cannes Premieres, which will see the titles get their own red carpet screenings in the Debussy theatre.

He also revealed that the Un Certain Regard section is being returned to its original focus for young and experimental cinema.

This year’s edition runs July 6-17 and is set to be held as a physical event after the 2020 festival was cancelled due to Covid-19.

As previously announced, Leos Carax’s musical film Annette is set to open the festival. Spike Lee will preside over the jury.
