Relativity Media has found its top acquisitions person as the company announced the arrival of the former Paramount buyer.

Matukewicz joins as senior vice-president of worldwide acquisitions and will be on the ground at Sundance scouring for new titles.

In his new role Matukewicz will also seek production opportunities and reports directly to president of worldwide production Tucker Tooley and president of theatrical marketing and distribution Peter Adee.

He is the former vice-president of acquisitions and co-productions for Paramount Vantage and Paramount Worldwide Acquisitions Group and served nine years within the Paramount fold. Prior to Paramount he worked at Mandalay Pictures

Tooley praised Matukewicz’s “great commercial and critical instincts” while the new hire said Relativity was “uniquely poised” to benefit from the increasingly entrepreneurial nature of acquisitions.

Matukewicz acquired David Ellis’ Untitled 3D Shark Thriller from Vantage head Nick Meyer’s Sierra Pictures. At Paramount his trophies included Hustle & Flow, An Inconvenient Truth and Mad Hot Ballroom.
