YouTube global head of content Robert Kyncl is set to use his keynote speech at Mipcom to reveal the partners that have landed up to £500,000 to produce content for the Google-owned platform.

Kyncl’s 8 October speech will open the conference in Cannes, with the former vice-president of content acquisitions for Netflix expected to unveil around 20 partners that will launch a raft of channels towards the end of the year, focusing on different genres.

Channels from Avalon, Fresh One Productions, Hat Trick, ITN Productions, plus a Zodiak Active motoring-themed channel, along with Maverick Television and other All3Media-managed properties, are understood to have secured funding.

Guinness World Records is also thought to be preparing a branded channel featuring content about record breaking. It will be produced by multiplatform indie Across The Pond Productions following a competitive pitch process led by Zodiak Rights, which manages the brand’s international rights.

Digital businesses including Base 79, Shine’s Channelflip, Diagonal View and Spirit Media are also thought to have picked up work helping to manage channels as a result of YouTube’s investment.

YouTube’s £10m original content push has been led in the UK by director of TV Ben McOwen Wilson, who kicked off a pitch process in May that attracted around 150 bidders.

The move follows a $100m (£64m) content push from the site in the US last year. The model sees content owners advanced funds to produce an ad-funded channel, with Google recouping its investment before moving to a revenue-share model.
