The Los Angeles-based alternative content and distributor announced on Monday (12) it had taken North American rights to Oscar-winning Precious screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher’s feature directorial debut.

Several days earlier Cinedigm picked up the Colin Firth-Emily Blunt drama Arthur Newman.

Violet & Daisy will open in theatres in 2013 followed by VoD, digital and DVD roll-out. Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel play assassins in New York who are obsessed with pop culture and accept what they think will be a quick ob. James Gandolfini also stars.

Fletcher produced with John Penotti and Bonnie Timmermann. GreeneStreet Films and CAA represented the filmmakers in the deal with Cinedigm.

Arthur Newman premiered in Toronto and will also open theatrically in 2013 ahead of a VoD, digital, TV and DVD release.

Vertebra Film’s Mac Cappuccino and Cross Creek Pictures’ Brian Oliver produced with Alisa Tager and Becky Johnston. Cinedigm brokered the deal with UTA Independent Film Group, CAA and Eric Greenfeld.
