CNN Films top brass made the announcement on Friday ahead of the documentary’s world premiere at the Traverse City Film Festival in Michigan on Saturday.
Ky Dickens directed the account of a sole plan crash survivor who sets out to meet others – there have only been 14 sole survivors of major crashes in commercial aviation history.
“Survivors are often considered lucky and the rescue is often considered the end to their story,” said Dickens, herself a survivor of a deadly car crash. “But the complexity of true survival is where our film – and the questions that it poses – begins.”
“We are delighted about Sole Survivor as our latest CNN Films acquisition,” said Amy Entelis, svp for talent and content development at CNN Worldwide. “We think the universal life questions explored in this film will resonate with our viewers – who will learn that there was so much more to these stories.”
