Miguel Angel Vivas’ thriller is about a family held hostage.
Leading Spanish studio Filmax has secured theatrical sales for Miguel Angel Vivas’ thriller Kidnapped to Universum for Germany, Gussi for Latin America and CCV Entertainment for Scandinavia, off the back of its private screenings at Toronto.
Filmax are also in negotiations with distributors for the US and UK on the film — which has already been sold to 26 territories.
“It’s a pleasure to sell a film like Kidnapped; it’s a sales executive’s dream. You can tell by the reactions of the distributors that negotiations are going to be frenetic and I just love that,” Vicente Canales, head of the international division at Filmax, said.
Kidnapped tells the story of a family who move into a new house only to then be held hostage by a group of hooded men. Leading Spanish actors Fernando Cayo (The Orphanage), Ana Wagener (Biutiful) and Manuela Vellés (Camino) head the cast.
International co-production duties are shared between Spain’s Vaca Films (Cell 211) and Blur Producciones, and France’s La Fabrique 2.
Borja Pena, a producer at Vaca Films, said: “We are very happy with the job that Filmax International are doing with the film, they are doing exactly what they said they would”.
The film will premiere at the Austin Fantastic Fest on September 25 and will then screen at Sitges in Spain.
