FilmDistrict schedules Insidious as first US release in April

Insidious premiered in Toronto and is produced by Oren Peli, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider. It tells of a family whose son falls into a coma after dark spirits possess their new home. Wan directed and Whannell wrote the screenplay, as they did on Saw. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones served as executive producer.

FilmDistrict and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions own all US rights to Insidious, which Alliance Films financed and IM Global sold internationally.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will handle DVD and other ancillary rights on the film, which marks the first project in FilmDistrict’s streaming partnership with Netflix. Alliance will release the film in Canada, Spain, and the UK.

FilmDistrict’s maiden slate includes Nicolas Winding Refn’s thriller Drive, sci-fi action title Lockout and family film Soul Surfer.
