Global Screen to handle Denis Dercourt's third feature

Dercourt’s psychological drama, which is to be produced by Düsseldorf-based Busse & Halberschmidt Filmproduktion with Switzerland’s T&C Film and France’s Cité Films, has received backing from Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, MDM and the German-French Commission. The film will be released in Germany by X Verleih.

Dercourt came to international prominence when The Page Turner was screened in Un Certain Regard in 2006 and his sixth feature Tomorrow At Dawn followed three years later in the same sidebar. The French director has been living and working in Germany since 2010.

The second addition to Global Screen’s lineup is Arne Birkenstock’s portrait of art forger Wolfgang Beltracchi in Beltracchi. Die Kunst der Fälschung which will be produced by the director’s own company Fruitmarket Kultur und Medien with Tradewind Pictures, Senator Entertainment and Telepool.

Former hippie and talented artist Beltracchi was sentenced to six years in the biggest art forgery scandal of the postwar era at the end of October 2011 after forging dozens of paintings over a 35-year period. Coincidentally, the filmmaker’s father Reinhard Birkenstock is the forger’s attorney.

Meanwhile, Global Screen has announced that it will have six market premieres from its lineup screening at the Marché du Film in Cannes in two weeks’ time.

They are as follows:

Marc Wiese’s documentary Camp 14 – Total Control Zone about a man who was born and grew up in a Gulag-style North Korean prison camp before escaping at the age of 23

Markus Imboden’s drama The Foster Boy, starring Katja Riemann, Stefan Kurt, and Max Simonischek, which was the most successful local film at the Swiss box office in 2011

Julia von Heinz’s family film Hanni & Nanni 2, reprising the adventures of the troublesome twins at their St. Clare’s boarding school, with Jana and Sophia Münster, Heino Ferch, Hannelore Elsner and Katharina Thalbach

Maria Blumencron’s action drama Escape From Tibet, based on a true story, with Hannah Herzsprung and David Lee McInnis

Bernd Böhlich’s bittersweet comedy Fly Away, with Otto Sander, Anna-Maria Mühe and Angelica Domröse

Isabel Kleefeld’s Glory: A Tale of Mistaken Identities, based on the eponymous novel by Daniel Kehlmann, with Stefan Kurt, Julia Koschitz and Senta Berger.

Global Screen will also be bringing a number of titles that are still in postproduction to Cannes, such as Sandra Nettelbeck’s Michael Caine-starrer Mr Morgan’s Last Love, Emmy Award-winning Janet Tobias’ documentary The Cave, and the 3D animation film Niko 2 – Little Brother, Big Trouble. (ends)
