New Line’s comedy Hall Pass starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis opened top in the US through Warner Bros according to official studio figures released on Monday [28]. The Farrelly Brothers comedy grossed $13.5m.
Gnomeo And Juliet climbed one place to number two in its third weekend thanks to a $13.4m haul that elevated the running total to $74.3m. Last weekend’s champion Unknown fell to number three on $12.6m for $42.9m.
Oscar frontrunner The King’s Speech ranked eighth and added $7.3m to raise the tally to an exceptional $114.2m through The Weinstein Company after 14 weeks.
Another prominent Oscar nominee, True Grit, has grossed a spectacular $167.1m and ranks 110th while Black Swan in 15th stands at $103.6m.
The genre release Drive Angry with Nicolas Cage and Amber Heard opened in ninth place through Summit on a lacklustre $5.2m.
Next weekend’s wide releases are: Universal’s thriller The Adjustment Bureau starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt; Paramount’s animated release Rango; CBS Films’ fantasy Beastly with Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens; and Relativity’s comedy Take Me Home Tonight.
