Independent distribution company Phase 4 Films will release the low budget British basketball inspired drama in the US.
High Point Films, the theatrical sales division of Carey Fitzgerald’s London based High Point Media Group, has sold the North American rights for basketball inspired drama Freestyle to US independent distribution company Phase 4 Films.
Directed by ex professional basketball player Kolton Lee, the film was developed through Film London’s micro-budget production scheme Microwave. A love story set in the world of freestyle basketball, which combines shooting hoops, dancing and the latest R&B tunes, the film is being described as the UK’s answer to Step Up. Scripted by Michael Maynard, the film was co-developed by BBC Films and the UKFC.
The distribution deal was done ahead of the film’s market debut at The London UK Film Focus (LUFF) this week. It has already been released in the UK by Revolver Entertainment.
High Point managing director Carey Fitzgerald said: “Out of all the companies chasing after Freestyle in the North America, Phase 4 won head and shoulders above the crowd. Their clear enthusiasm and understanding for the film, combined with an excellent track record among U.S. and Canadian independent distributors, leaves us in no doubt that they will do the best job.”
