Indomina Releasing has picked up all North American rights from the Huayi Brothers to Tsui Hark’s Hong Kong martial arts box office hit Detective Dee And The Mystery Of The Phantom Flame.

The film screened at AFM and stars Andy Lau as the legendary detective who investigates a series of deaths on the eve of the Empress’ coronation. Carina Lau and Bingbing Li also star.

Chen Kuofu and Chang Chialu wrote the screenplay and Hark produced alongside Wang Zhongjun, Wang Zhonglei, Chen Kuofu and Shi Nansun.

Detective Dee And The Mystery Of The Phantom Flame has grossed more than $40m in China. It played in Venice and Toronto.

Indomina’s vice-president of acquisitions Rob Williams brokered the deal with Huayi Brothers’ senior manager of international sales and distribution Leslie Chen.
