DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind is racing towards the $100m and stayed top in its second weekend as an estimated 30.1m following a 35% slide boosted the tally to $89.8m.
Fox’s runaway train thriller Unstoppable starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine launched in second place on $23.5m while Warner Bros’ comedy Due Date in third added $15.5m for $59m.
The Strause Brothers’ alien invasion film Skyline, which Relativity acquired and funneled through its distribution deal with Universal, debuted in fourth place on $11.7m.
The newsroom soap opera MorningGlory starring Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams opened in firth place on $9.6m, rising to $12.2m factoring in Wednesday’s launch.
Lionsgate’s awards season hopeful For Colored Girls ranks sixth on $30.9m after two weekends. Warner Bros’ crime drama The Town ranks 20th and has grossed $90.6m after nine weeks.
In its second weekend, Fox Searchlight’s real-life drama 127 Hours added $453,000 from 22 theatres for $826,000
Next weekend’s wide release is Warner Bros’ Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 with the regular cast of Daniel Radcliffe, Emily Watson and Rupert Grint plus an all-star supporting cast of British acting history.
