108 Media’s first acquisition is the Korean hit animation Leafie: A Hen Into The Wild.

Toronto-based sales and distribution company 108 Media has launched, securing all English-language rights Korean animation Leafie: A Hen Into The Wild as its first acquisition.

Focusing on worldwide sales and Canadian distribution of films, TV, gaming and mobile content, 108 Media is funded by private equity and its principals are CEO Abhishek Rastogi - formerly managing director of Cinesavvy - and president of distribution, Nathaniel Warsh.

Rastogi said: “Our strategy for 108 Media is a hybrid of a traditional sales model and a transmedia company. Our North American theatrical release [for Leafie] will showcase the stunning animation and heart-warming narrative of the film and allow us to explore opportunities for mobile content, gaming, comic books and apps.”

We chose 108 Media because of their love for Leafie and their aggressive distribution strategy. We are very pleased to find a strong Western partner, and expect we will have as much success as we had in the Korean release,” added Shim Jaemyung, CEO of Myung Films which produced Leafie.

The animation, based on the best-selling novel, broke Korean box office records for a domestic animation on its release last summer after recording 2.2m admissions. Leafie will be released in North American cinemas later this year.

Further 108 Media acquisitions are set to be announced during the EFM and Rastogi and Warsh will be attending Berlin to sell and acquire films for international sales, domestic Canadian distribution and other media channels.
