Protagonist Pictures had a busy EFM with key sales done on Richard Ayoade’s The Double and Nick Love’s The Sweeney [pictured]
CEO Ben Roberts said the market was “one of our best yet.”
The Sweeney, starring Ray Winstone, Ben ‘Plan B’ Drew, Hayley Atwell and Damian Lewis, had promo reels for buyers. In addition to a multi-territory deal with Universal for France, Benelux, Scandinavia and Brazil, the film also sold to Canada (eOne), Australia/New Zealand (Hoyts), Portugal (Lusomundo), Turkey (Tiglon) and airlines (Jaguar). eOne has UK rights to the Vertigo/Embargo Films production and plans a September launch.
Ayoade’s Submarine follow-up comedy The Double was sold to the UK/Ireland (StudioCanal), France (Mars), Hong Kong (Golden Scene), Switzerland (Rialto), and Portugal (Lusomundo). Further territories are in negotiation now.
Protagonist also added new sales for Lynn Shelton’s Emily Blunt-Mark Duplass comedy Your Sister’s Sister to Spain (Avalon), Benelux (Paradiso), CIS (Maywin), Greece (Feelgood), Scandinavia (Non-Stop), Poland (Gutek) and airlines (Terry Steiner).
John Michael McDonagh’s The Guard follow-up Calvary was sold by Protagonist and producer Chris Clark to Transmission for Australia/New Zealand. As previously reported, Alliance Momentum has UK-Canada rights.
Sundance hit documentary Searching For Sugar Man added sales for the Middle East (Front Row), Scandinavia (Non Stop), South Korea (Pan Cinema), Spain (Avalon) and airlines (Jaguar).
Kevin Macdonald’s How I Live Now, in pre-production, added sales to Eastern Europe (Ablo) and CIS/Baltics (Carmen).
In other sales, Protagonist closed Terrence Davies’ The Deep Blue Sea for Spain (Festival Films), Ayoade’s Submarine for Spain (Versus Films), and Paddy Considine’s Tyrannosaur for Japan (Shin Nippon) and Italy (Movies Inspired).
