Alex Gibney’s The Armstrong Lie recounts the story of the disgraced cyclist’s life and career over the last four years.
SPC acquired worldwide rights to The Armstrong Lie, which Gibney produced alongside Frank Marshall and Matt Tolmach.
Gibney started following Armstrong in 2009 as the former holder of seven Tour De France medals prepared to come out of retirement in a bid to win his eighth title.
The film covers events in 2012 when Armstrong admitted to doping following a federal investigation.
“On this long-distance ride, full of unpredictable twists and turns, I learned a lot about one spectacular sport – cycling – as well as the ethic of winning at all costs that pervades most sports and society-at-large,” said Gibney.
“We set out to make a movie about a comeback – with unlimited and unprecedented access to Armstrong and the inner-workings of the Tour De France,” said Marshall and Tolmach.
“Along the way, we ended up chronicling the collapse of one of the greatest myths and legends of our time.”
