The partners have acquired US rights to Dan Algrant’s film, which chronicles two generations of musicians – Tim and Jeff Buckley. Separately, The Cinema Guild has taken select rights to An Oversimplification Of Her Beauty.

Tribeca Film and Focus World will release Greetings From Tim Buckley in 2013 through platform theatrical and VoD channels. The film premiered in Toronto and stars Penn Badgley as Jeff Buckley and Ben Rosenfield as Tim Buckley. The cast includes Imogen Poots.

Tribeca Film director of acquisitions Nick Savva and Focus evp of strategic planning, business affairs and acquisitions Avy Eschenasy and director of alternative content and distribution Kent Sanderson negotiated the deal with CAA and Hengameh Panahi of Celluloid Dreams on behalf of the filmmakers.

“The partnership between Tribeca and Focus finds us a perfect home for Buckley,” said Algrant. “No rules exist any more for films like this, where the audience will not only want to find it playing nearby in a theatre, but also to pull it onto their own personal screen ASAP. I only advise them to have proper speakers so they can blast the concert sequence – or they’ll be missing out.”

  • The Cinema Guild has acquired US home video, digital and non-theatrical rights to Terence Nance’s debut An Oversimplification Of Her Beauty. Ryan Krivoshey of The Cinema Guild brokered the deal with Traction Media. The filmmakers will release the film theatrically in early 2013, followed by a DVD and VOD release through Cinema Guild.
