UK actor Paddy Considine’s Tyrannosaur is set to mark Bavaria Film’s return to the world of theatrical distribution when the film opens in German cinemas on October 13.

Considine’s directorial debut, which had its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will be released by Kino kontrovers, which Bavaria Media, a 100%subsidiary of Bavaria Film, recently acquired from the Cologne-based video label Legend Home Entertainment (LHE).

Kino kontrovers had been launched by LHE in 2004 to release arthouse titles with controversial subjects such as Bruno Dumont’s Twentynine Palms, Larry Clark’s Ken Park and Gaspar Noe’s Irreversible. Under new management from Bavaria Media’s Christoph Meiser, the label’s first new titles on DVD and Blu-ray will be released as part of a brand re-launch in the first quarter of 2012.

This autumn will also see Bavaria Media and LHE collaborating on the re-release of some of its DVD titles from recent years in re-designed packaging.

Moreover, Kino kontrovers will give a theatrical life to selected future titles, with the start being made by Tyrannosaur which won the CineVision Award for the best international newcomer at this year’s Filmfest München at the end of June.
