UK distributor Artificial Eye had acquired Lynne Ramsay’s adaptation of We Need To Talk About Kevin, which will star Tilda Swinton (pictured).

The film, which has been acquired at script stage, is being produced Jennifer Fox and Independent’s Luc Roeg. It has been developed by BBC Films’ creative director Christine Langan and Paula Jalfon, who are both executive producing with Steven Soderbergh.

We Need To Talk About Kevin, which begins principal photography early next year, is based on Lionel Shriver’s 2005 novel. The story follows Kevin and his mother, Eva. After Kevin goes on a killing spree just days before his 16th birthday, Eva is forced to question whether she ever loved her son and how much she is to blame for what he did.

The deal was negiotiated by Artificial Eye managing director Louisa Dent and Abigal Walsh, head of sales at Independent.

Meanwhile, it has also acquired a number of award winners from this year’s Cannes, Venice and Toronto film festivals, which will be released next year. The films are: Father Of My Children; Life During Wartime; Lourdes; Women Without Men; White Material; Police, Adjective; Le Refuge and IVUL.
