Bill Pohlad and Bob Berney’s fledgling distributor Apparition has added the Sundance hit Black Dynamite to its slate and will release on October 16.

The move is a logical one given Apparition’s relationship with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group (SPWAG), which paid $2m for North American rights to the film in Park City last January and will handle ancillary on Apparition’s slate.

Michael Jai White stars in Scott Sander’s blaxpoitation homage, which SPWAG executives regard as a potential franchise.

The film becomes the fourth title on Apparition’s slate following Jane Campion’s Toronto entry Bright Star, Terrence Malick’s Tree Of Life, and Jean-Marc Vallee’s The Young Victoria.
