The New York-based company will release Amigo in conjunction with Anarchist’s Convention on Aug 20.

Joel Torre stars as a village mayor caught in the crossfire of the Philippine-American War in 1900, as he faces pressure from the garrison in his village to collaborate.

Chris Cooper, Ronnie Lazaro, Garret Dillahunt and Yul Vazquez round out the key cast. Amigo will open in the Philippines on Jul 6.

“I don’t know if we’ve ever found a film that embodies everything Variance is about as well as Amigo does,” said Variance Films founder Dylan Marchetti said.

“It plays to nearly all of our strengths, from our grassroots marketing skills to our ability to reach Asian American audiences across the country.”
