At this week’s Polish Film Academy Awards (The Eagles), Jerzy Skolimowski’s Venice prize winner Essential Killing was named best film and he also won best director.

Essential Killing also won for best music and best editing.

The Ghost Writer won Best European Film.

Roman Polanski spoke to the crowd in Warsaw via telephone from the set of Carnage.

Jacek Borcuch won best screenplay for All That I Love. The film also won the audience award for best Polish film of 2010, and the film’s lead actor Mateusz Kościukiewicz, was recognised as Discovery of the Year.

The Best Actor award went to Robert Więckiewicz for Rose (Różyczka) and Urszula Grabowska won an Eagle for Best Actress in Joanna.

Minister of Culture presented Bogdan Zdrojewski also presented the Life Time Acheivement Award to veteran filmmaker Tadeusz Chmielewski.
