Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp enters theme park business

French mini major EuropaCorp the company has announced it is joining forces with theme park giant Europa Park to create a new animation-based attraction for the latter’s family leisure resort in Germany, one of the biggest in Europe.

“Europa Park, one of the most popular leisure parks in Europe, and EuropaCorp, Europe’s leading film studio, are joining forces to create a unique attraction. Given the closeness of their activities, EuropaCorp and Europa Park were destined to unite in the domain of entertainment. Plans for this new enterprise will be unveiled shortly,” the companies said in a joint statement.

No other details were given in the statement although a spokesperson for the company revealed that the project revolved around the production of a theme park animation, drawing on characters from EuropaCorp’s films.

The Europa Park leisure complex on the German border with France is one of the biggest such sites in Europe. It encompasses 13 country-themed areas, hundreds of attractions and daily shows featuring more than 180 international artists as well as four hotels and a campsite. More than four million people visit the park a year.
