Swedish writer-director Jens Jonsson, whose 2008 feature The King of Ping Pong won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, will direct the third and final instalment in the EasyMoney (Snabba Cash) thriller trilogy.

The third film will go into production while Babak Najafi is still readying the second instalment for the August 31 domestic launch.

The 2010 original, which became a local blockbuster with 620,000 admissions, proved a Hollywood career maker both for director Daniel Espinosa and lead actor Joel Kinnamon. Espinosa has directed Universal’s Safe House and Kinnamon has been attached to José Padilha’s RoboCop.

Based on Swedish lawyer-turned-author Jens Lapidus’ StockholmNoir novels, starring Kinnaman, Matias Varela and Dragomir Mrsic, the trilogy follows JW, a poor young student with a double life in the wealthy Stockholm elite and organised crime. Easy Money won three Guldbagger – Sweden’s national film prize – and Denmark’s TrustNordisk sold it to more than 30 territories. The final chapter is adapted from Lapidus’ best-selling Life Deluxe.

”Jonsson will secure that we continue the international standards set by Espinosa and Najafi,” said Swedish producer Fredrik Wikström, of Tre Vänner Produktion, who will produce with Nordisk Film, Film i Väst, Swedish pubcaster SVT with support from the Swedish Film Institute - and Espinosa as executive producer. Warner Bros holds US remake rights and is – according topublicity manager Gilda Romero – currently in discussions about script and cast.
