Luisa Bonello has resigned as Film Commissioner for Malta, to pursue other career opportunities in the industry.

She will leave the post “shortly.”

Anthony Sammut has been appointed Acting Film Commissioner until a replacement is chosen.

Bonello had led the organisation since its inception four years ago, and had been involved with its development for 11 years.

The Film Commission comes under the umbrella of the Finance Ministry.

She said: “I am happy that I am moving on at a time when the industry in Malta is so buoyant and I am sure it will continue to be fully supported by my successor and by the Board of the commission.”

Projects to shoot recently in Malta include The Devil’s Double, Agora, and HBO’s Game Of Thrones.

The new Asterix and Obelix: God Save Britannia will be shooting there next month, and other projects shooting on the island this year will include Sky 1’s series Sinbad the Sailor.

Malta offers a cash rebate of up to 22% of the eligible expenditure for qualifying productions.

The island, located in the centre of the Mediterranean, will host the European Film Academy Awards in December 2012.
