Spain’s first film to be made in 3D, titled Holy Night, will make its world premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival next month.

Produced by leading Galicia based animation outfit Dygra Films, Holy Night is a about two sets of toys — one on the side of Father Christmas and the other fighting for the Three Wise Men — in a battle to save Christmas.

The film, currently in post, is directed by Juan Galiñanes and co-written by Billy Frolick (Madagascar) alongside David Muñoz and Antonio Trashorras (co-writers of Guillermo Del Toro’s The Devil’s Backbone).

Dygra Films has already shown a promo reel of the film at Cannes and is close to confirming a Spanish distributor and is in talks with various US distributors. It is hoped the film will attract a top line cast of US voices alongside Spanish talent, which already includes Anabel Alonso.

San Sebastian will also be presenting the Spanish premieres of two other 3D animation titles, Ben Stassen’s sea turtle story Sammy’s Adventures: The Secret Passage, voiced by Tim Curry and Melanie Griffith, and Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud’s crime caper Despicable Me, voiced by Steve Carell.

“We had great success with the 3D films we showed at last year’s event, and so this year we are showing these [aforementioned] films at the Velodrome theatre,” Mikel Olaciregui told ScreenDaily. “The films will be dubbed for the local public and in original version for the press and industry.”
