Katherine Butler promoted to deputy head of film.

Producer Rose Garnett has joined Film4 as its new head of development. She replaces Sam Lavender in the role, who was recently promoted to commissioning executive.

Garnett, who was an associate producer Black Swan and script editor on Sky One mini-series Treasure Island, formerly ran the Gate Theatre in Notting Hill and produced alongside David Farr, Rachel Weisz and Sasha Hails as part of the Talking Tongues theatre group.

In addition, current senior commissioning executive Katherine Butler has been promoted to deputy head of film.

Butler joined Film4 in January 2005 as head of development, where she was responsible for the development of projects including Slumdog Millionaire, Hallam Foe, Nowhere Boy, Submarine, Attack the Block and Brick Lane

She was promoted to senior commissioning executive in October 2009 and has since executive produced titles including Sightseers, The Imposter, Berberian Sound Studio, Tyrannosaur, Kill List, and most recently Clio Barnard’s The Selfish Giant, which has been selected for Cannes Directors’ Fortnight.

Garnett and Butler will report directly to Tessa Ross, controller of film and drama at Channel 4.

The Film4 development team also recently added former Element and TWC exec Tom Leggett and producer Polly Stokes to work alongside Eva Yates as development editors. Sue Breen is currently covering Yates who is on maternity leave.
