The news follows last week’s announcement that it would be opening an office in Paris, also in 2019. It already has offices in Amsterdam and London.

Netflix has previously announced the establishment of a production hub in Spain (also in Madrid), which will be a facility for the production of Spanish-language content for the streaming service.

The new office will support the activities of the hub, including working accross marketing and PR, and will also target increasing business in the region.

Some of Netflix’s Amsterdam-based employees will move to the new Madrid location once it is open.

The news was announced by the company’s VP international originals, Erik Barmack, who is currently in Madrid for the premiere of Spanish original series Elite.

On the Spanish front, the company is talking to the Almodovar brothers’ production company El Deseo about producing a Spanish language series for the platform, and also struck an exclusive overall deal with Money Heist creator Alex Pina this summer.

“With the recent commitment to a production hub in Spain, and our level of investment in local originals ramping up significantly, we have decided to open a Madrid office next year to complement the activities of the hub and support our increasing business in the region,” commented Barmack.
