Paramount Pictures and eOne have struck a deal to co-finance the upcoming wide-release theatrical films Clifford The Big Red Dog and Monster Problems.

eOne will distribute directly in the UK and Canada, excluding UK television, and Paramount will distribute all other rights including the US.

Walt Becker will direct Clifford The Big Red Dog and Jack Whitehall and Darby Camp will star in the story of a young girl struggling to fit in who befriends a small red puppy that grows magically into a gigantic dog and attracts the attention of a genetics company. The girl and her uncle must battle the forces of greed and go on the run across New York City.

Jay Scherick and David Ronn and Annie Mumolo and Stan Chervin wrote the screenplay, and Paramount Pictures is producing alongside Jordan Kerner and Scholastic Entertainment’s Iole Lucchese.

Michael Matthews directs Monster Problems, which began production in March and stars Dylan O’Brien, Michael Rooker, Dan Ewing, Jessica Henwick, and Arianna Greenblatt.

When a monster breaks into a colony’s bunker and kills one of the members, Joel Dawson sets out to reunite with his high school love, and braves dangerous mutated animals, unexpected friendships, and foes along the way.

Brian Duffield and Craig Johnson wrote the screenplay, and Paramount will produce alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen via 21 Laps banner. John Starke will serve as an executive producer.

“We are excited to be working with the incredibly talented creative teams involved in these two films and to join forces with Paramount as we continue with our ownership and distribution strategy to build a strong slate of high-quality, broad films,” said eOne president of film Nick Meyer.

“We look forward to leveraging our flexibility and global resources to bring these impressive properties to audiences around the world with our terrific partners at Paramount.”

Paramount Pictures COO Andrew Gumpert said, “We’re thrilled to be coupling our creative resources with eOne’s sophisticated and effective business strategies on these two exciting and anticipated films.”
