Current head of Korea National University of Arts’ School of Film, TV & Multimedia will handle European programming.

Korea’s Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) has appointed Jangwan Pyeon as chief programmer, current head of Korea National University of Arts’ School of Film, TV & Multimedia.

Pyeon has also been a member of PiFan’s organising committee since 2010.

Following the quiet exit of longtime PiFan programmer Jin Park last year, Pyeon will be handling European programming.

He joins a programming team of Alice Yoo, whose focus is Asia and Sangho Rhee, whose focus is the Americas, along with Jongsuk Thomas Nam, managing director of the Network of Asian Fantastic Films which includes PiFan’s project market and training workshop.

Pyeon’s also director of the Moving Image Technology Association of Korea and on the board of the Film Studies Association of Korea. He has a diploma in Film Directing from the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA), an MA from New York University’s film programme and a BA in English from Chungang University.

The 18th PiFan will run July 17-27 this year.
