The British star of the US TV smash Homeland is in discussions to play the lead in Four Stars International’s civil rights activist biopic.

Lou Gossett Jr will also star in the tale of Robeson, the son of a slave who attended Columbia Law School while playing in the National Football League and went on to become a celebrated singer, actor and outspoken political campaigner.

Robeson was also a infamous philanderer and had affairs with Dame Peggy Ashcroft and Uta Hagen. In his later years he retreated to Harlem and he died in 1976.

Greg Carter of Nexus Films is a co-producer on the project, which is scheduled to commence principal photography next summer.
