The actor-producer teams up with Daniel Noah and Josh C Waller for a stable of projects that will explore the horror genre and include Curse The Darkness.
The partners met earlier this year on the set of the Atlas Independent project I’m From The Future. Noah wrote that project while Waller is a director who recently wrapped the female action thriller Raze starring Zoe Bell and Rachel Nichols.
Waller is currently shooting McCanick, a police drama that Noah wrote and stars David Morse, Cory Monteith, Ciaran Hinds, Mike Vogel, and Maura Tierney.
Socio-political zombie film Curse The Darkness is set for a February 2013 shoot in Florida in partnership with Cinipix Films.
The slate includes child sociopath tale Henley, quarantine drama Harrow and second world war story It Was Cruel from Shadow Of The Vampire director E Elias Merhige.
The Woodshed plans to collaborate on other projects with Nimrod Antal, Alex de la Iglesia, Panos Cosmatos and music video director Ace Norton.
“I’ve been a fan of horror and genre cinema in general since I was a child and have become increasingly passionate about the idea of there being a space in which horror films that take their subject matter and characters seriously could be produced,” Wood said.
“What was born out of a conversation of our mutual love for the genre and what we felt was lacking in a broad sense, especially from the US market, became The Woodshed.”
The company has been named co-director of the upcoming horror festival Nightmare City. Non-profit cinematheque The Cinefamily and The Woodshed are expected to unveil the line-up next week, which will include Elijah Wood’s Maniac.
