Scott Free, Ridley and Tony Scott’s production company, has appointed Channel 4 head of drama Liza Marshall to head its UK business as part of a European expansion.

Marshall, who will be based in London, will be responsible for the development and production of independent UK film and TV projects. She will take on the newly created role of head of TV and film in January.

Her credits at the UK broadcaster include John Crowley’s Boy A, Samantha Morton’s The Unloved, and Rowan Joffe’s Secret Life. Most recently she was responsible for Tony Grisoni’s Red Riding trilogy, which is now being developed by Scott Free and Sony. It will be written by Steve Zaillian.

Prior to Channel 4, she served as a producer and executive producer at the BBC.

Scott Free’s current slate of films includes Tony Scott’s Unstoppable for Twentieth Century Fox, Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood for Universal and Joe Carnahan’s The A Team.

“At a time of uncertainty in many areas of the business, and in particular in the specialty film sector in the US, we believe it is an opportune time to step up our commitment to European filmmaking” said Ridley Scott.
