Oscar Isaac, who plays the lead in the Coen Brothers’ upcoming Inside Llewyn Davis, has been hired to star in Warp Films Australia’s Partisan. Madman will distribute in Australia and New Zealand and UTA Independent Film Group arranged remaining financing and represents world sales.

The story follows a vengeful man who brings up his children to attack the world that wronged him. Ariel Kleiman makes his feature directorial debut.

Warp Films Australia’s Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw will produce, as they did on the company’s earlier efforts Snowtown (known in the US as The Snowtown Murders) and Shopping.

Isaac, who will also be seen later this year in Therese Raquin and Two Faces Of January, will be familiar to Australian audiences after winning the Australian Film Institute Award for best supporting actor for Balibo.

Kleiman’s short film Deeper Than Yesterday won the jury prize for best international short film at Sundance 2011 and the Kodak Discovery Award for best short film at Cannes 2010. Young Love won the short filmmaking award – honorable mention at Sundance 2010.

Kleiman co-wrote Partisan with Sarah Cyngler. A draft collected the Mahindra Global Filmmaking Award at Sundance 2012.

Oscar Isaac is represented by UTA, Inspire Entertainment and SMGSB. Ariel Kleiman is handled by UTA.
