The UK singer/actor will star opposite Ray Winstone in the feature version of the 1970s British TV series, which is being produced by UK outfit Vertigo Films.

Ben Drew (aka musician Plan B) has joined the cast of Vertigo’s remake of The Sweeney, alongside Ray Winstone.

The pair will play Flying Squad detectives George Carter (Drew) and Jack Regan (Winstone) in the film, which is being modernised and set in present day England.

Nick Love (The Football Factory) will direct from a script penned by the BAFTA winning writer of Trainspotting John Hodge. Shooting will get underway in the autumn.

Drew/Plan B is currently in post on his directorial debut Ill Manors. The multi talented artist previously starred alongside Michael Caine in Harry Brown as well as picking up a Brit award for his music in February.
