Production has begun in South Africa on F&ME feature documentary Street Kids United, set around the first footballing world cup for street children.
Film and Music Entertainment’s Street Kids United, a feature documentary inspired by the first Street Child World Cup has begun principal photography this week.
Documentary film-maker Tim Pritchard, who is directing the project, has already begun shooting footage of the soccer tournament for street kids, which kicked off in Durban, South Africa on March 15.
Sam Taylor, Mike Downey and Sandy Markwick are producing the film. International sales are being handled by Robbie Little’s The Little Film Company.
This is F&ME’s second project to come out of South Africa following Khayelitsha township-shot Son of Man, which screened in Sundance two years ago, directed by Mark Dornford May.
“We always try to have a mixed portfolio of projects,” says Film and Music Entertainment’s Samantha Taylor, “and feature documentaries are becoming a key part of our line up. Tim and Sandy are well positioned to show, in Street Kids United, not simply an examination of child poverty but a seasoned look at the issues facing South Africa in the run up to the 2010 World Cup.”
