Toronto-based genre specialists Raven Banner arrive on the Croisette with sales rights to the Swedish-language supernatural thriller Black Circle from Here Comes The Devil director Adrian Garcia Bogliano.

The film screened at Glasgow Film Festival earlier this year and centres on two sisters whose lives change dramatically when they are hypnotised by a mysterious vinyl album recorded in the 1970s that releases a ghostly doppelganger.

Black Circle (Svart Cirkel) stars Swedish exploitation icon Christina Lindberg, whose performance in the 1973 Swedish revenge film They Call Her One-Eye served as a reference for Quentin Tarantino when he wrote the Elle Driver character played by Daryl Hannah in the Kill Bill films.

The Swedish cast includes Best Actress Guldbagge nominee Felice Jankell (Young Sophie Bell, Sobibor), Hanna and Erica Midfjäll (I Miss You), Madeleine Trollvik, and singer Johan Palm.

Bo and Rickard Gramfors of Sweden’s Klubb Super 8, and Andrea Quiroz Hernandez of Mexico’s Salto de Fe Films are producing, and financing comes from Joshua Sobel’s Los Angeles-based F, UK company Mondo Macabro run by Pete Tombs and Andrew Starke, Sweden’s Solid Entertainment, and Tenebrae Enterprises from Finland.

“This was my opportunity to work with Christina Lindberg, who has been one of my favorite actresses for many years,” said Spanish-born, Mexico-based Bogliano.

“Having previously released Adrian’s Late Phases in Canada, it’s awesome to be re-teaming with Bogliano and Andrea Quiroz Hernandez to support their next vision, Black Circle,” said Raven Banner managing partner Michael Paszt.

Raven Banner managing partners James Fler and Paszt negotiated the deal with Mikko Aromaa of Tenebrae Enterprises.
