The Ink Factory, the London and Los Angeles-based production company behind Fighting With My Family and The Night Manager, has hired Katherine Butler as creative director.

Butler joins from American Animals-producer Raw, where she was scripted creative director, and will take up the newly-created position in early 2020. She had spent nearly six years at Raw, having joined from Film4 where she was deputy head of film.

Butler will oversee the film and television slate globally for the production outfit, which focusses on adapting the work of spy novelist John le Carré as well as producing original features. Butler will report to The Ink Factory co-founders and co-CEOs Stephen and Simon Cornwell, who are the sons of le Carré.

Her new role will include seeking out creative opportunities with existing and emerging storytellers and building out a portfolio of projects.

Butler most recently produced Bart Layton’s Animal Animals and the upcoming feature Dream Horse, starring Toni Collette and Damian Lewis, which will be released in the UK by Warner Bros and in the US by Bleecker St in the spring of 2020.

The Ink Factory launched in 2010 and had adapted le Carré works including A Most Wanted Man and Our Kind Of Traitor as films as well as series The Night Manager and The Little Drummer Girl for TV. Original features include Stephen Merchant’s wrestling comedy Fighting With My Family and Message From The King, starring Chadwick Boseman.
