A Brexit-inspired comedy written by Sally Potter and new work from The Florida Project producer Kevin Chinoy are among the line-up at Ontario Creates’ 14th International Financing Forum (iff), set to take place from Sept 8-9 in association with and during the Toronto International Film Festival.
The competitive feature film co-financing and co-production event will bring together producers, sales agents financiers, distributors and agents from Canada and the international sector for two days of networking, one-on-one producer and executive meetings, a state-of-the-industry panel discussion, a luncheon, and a producers’ opening night networking reception.
iff 2019 comprises 36 feature producer teams and projects featuring 12 female directors who have been invited to participate in a competitive, curated programme. Participants include 21 Canadian producing teams from British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan, and 15 international teams from the UK, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, The Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, and the US.

Psychological thriller Unidentified Woman to be directed by Katrina Saville, from producers Aeschylus Poulos (Sleeping Giant, Cannes Critics Week 2015, TIFF 2015 Best Canadian First Feature) and Sonya di Rienzo (Propaganda: The Art of Selling Lies, Hot Docs 2019) of Ontario-based Hawkeye Pictures;
UK producer Lucie Wenigerová from Adventure Pictures (Orlando, The Tango Lesson, Ginger And Rosa) with Brexit-inspired comedy ALBA, written by Sally Potter (pictured);
Trans drama Something You Said Last Night from Ontario producers Jessica Adams (Astronaut, starring Richard Dreyfuss, 2019 Edinburgh International Film Festival) and Charlie Hidalgo of JA Productions, with Kevin Chinoy (The Florida Project, Tangerine) on board as executive producer;
Coming-of-age drama Have No Shame, to be directed by Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, based on Melissa Foster’s New York Times bestselling book. US producer and executive producer George Parra (Silver Linings Playbook, Nebraska, The Descendants) teams with producer Amanda Kiely of Tall Brit Productions; and
Kenya-set thriller Beach, to be directed by Danish director Vibeke Muasya (Lost In Africa) and starring Lars Mikkelsen (Headhunter), from Danish producer Lene Børglum of Space Rocket Nation.
Companies attending for the first time this year include A24, Cornerstone Films, Celsius Entertainment, Films Boutique, Film Constellation, Indie Sales, and NEON, along with returning companies such as Netflix, Bleecker Street, Celluloid Dreams, Fox Searchlight, IFC Films/Sundance Selects/IFC Midnight, K5 International, ICM Partners, Magnolia Pictures, Memento Films, Quickfire Films, River Road Entertainment, and StudioCanal.
